Christmas Eve 2007

Jennie, Tucker, Houston and I went to Gigi and Papa's for our traditional Christmas Eve dinner and present unwrapping. Tucker could barely contain himself, so Gigi broke her long standing rule and allowed him to open one present before dinner. This, amazingly, appeased him and he not only didn't ask to open another one, he played with the one he opened and then ate his dinner.
The year, the dinner was non-traditional, but afterwards, we all decided to make it a tradition. The menu went something like this:
Fried trout and flounder, fried oysters, scalloped oysters, steamed shrimp (Tucker ate 20), baked bean caserole, cheese grits, potato salad, gumbo, hushpuppies, pound cake (courtesy of Ms. Nell) with strawberries, and lemon mirangue pie (Papa's fav.). Don't knock it till you try it.
After dinner, we all scrambled around and cleaned up and then it was time for the presents. As usual we all outdid ourselves with Gigi and Papa getting the awards for best gifts given. Tucker was way too excited to stay within the traditional go around the room and watch everyone open one present at a time. In fact, he had the most presents and I think he was done within 10 minutes. He loaded up as usual and was very excited about his guitar (which daddy promptly broke a string on trying to tune). Houston got into a few presents, but was ready for bed when Mama decided it was time.
When we all finished opening, we cleaned up, packed up, and headed home to put out reindeer food and cookies and milk for Santa. Houston was back asleep before his head hit the pillow and Tucker was giddy as you can imagine. Jennie and I are almost done unpacking from the haul at Gigi and Papa's and then it will be straight to bed for us too. We don't want to miss Santa!!
Merry Christmas!!
