Spring Break 2009!!!

And just like that, it's Spring Break.  I know this is a recurring theme, but I just can't get over how fast time flies.  Anyhoo, Jennie took the kids and Sam, along with Aunt Katherine and her two kids and their new dog, Amos, to the lake for spring break.  They went down on Tuesday leaving the dads by themselves for two nights.  They arrived to beautiful weather and found themselves swimming in the freezing water in no time...the kids that is.  I don't know how they do it, but they don't seem to feel the cold.  Weird.  Everything was all hunky dorry until they discovered water in the downstairs bathroom.  And I don't mean out of the faucet...all over the floor.  Fast forward 3 days (to save you all the boring details), we wound up dealing with carpet cleaning people, a plumber and a septic tank engineer?, all within a span of 72 hours trying to fix the problem.  We got it temporarily fixed...at least enough to make it all livable.

On Thursday, after living in Bachelorville for 48 hours and having my fill of after hours golf and cheeseburger wraps, I headed down as well, accompanied by Uncle Tom. We were not greeted with such nice weather.  In fact, it started raining on us before we got there and didn't stop for two days.  Graham and Carrie arrived with their two kids shortly after we did and we all had one big, fun get together...inside.  The weather was so bad, Jennie and I (of course being up before everyone else) had to wake everyone up Friday morning to get downstairs because of a tornado threat.

Let me add a side note here...if you are going to a medium-sized 3 bedroom 2 bath lake house with 6 adults, 7 children ages 10 and under, 2 dogs and there is really bad weather expected, you might want to rethink your plans.  Don't get me wrong, we had a great time and definitely made a memory, but it was by the grace of god.  We were fortunate in that the kids all got along great with no abnormal fights.  Thank goodness for Nintendo, right?

The plans were to come home Saturday.  However, yet again, inclement weather (outside and in Uncle Tom's tummy), forced us inside and made our decision to stay another night an easy one.  Oddly, the clouds cleared away and the sun came out that afternoon and we were actually able to spend some time down at the water.  Of course, the next morning, as we are cleaning and packing, it was the most beautiful day yet.  It made for a nice drive home I guess.

It is so awesome for me to spend time with my kids at Silver Lake especially since they are approaching the age I was when I first started going.  I have so many memories down there with my brothers, sisters and cousins.  It is nice to see that tradition continuing.
